Astute Women: An Online Free event for Powerful Women!

As this very challenging year draws to an end, this is a time to reflect, to be enriched and to connect.

We’ve crafted our online Astute Woman events to inspire, encourage and connect women across the globe.

Hosted by Janet du Preez, masterful programme designer, facilitator and DisruptJozi franchise owner, these events draw from a panel of amazing woman speakers and include 5 minute Pecha Kucha and keynote presentations, breakout conversations, online whiteboarding exercises and other activities crafted to meet these objectives.

After a VERY successful launch in August, our next event will be hosted on 30 November 2020 with an incredible line-up of hand-picked speakers.

Inaugural Lecture: The Sport Governance Conundrum

Join us on 19 August 2020 for an Exclusive Inaugural Lecture presented by Prof Paul Singh!

The governance of sport in South Africa in the democratic era has been plagued by bad governance. Numerous scandals, shenanigans, power struggles and boardroom challenges involving managers and directors at various levels of the sport hierarchy have brought the noble values associated with sport into question.

The very integrity and sustainability of our sport is at risk. In the context of the current challenges, the VUCA world demands for innovation and change, the Covid-19 pandemic and emerging challenges to the governance of sport at national level requires a fresh, scientific, context-specific, agile response and visionary and ethical leadership.

Issues of gender equality, doping, sexual harassment and the need for safeguarding participants, financial mismanagement, stadium safety, high turn-over of coaches, legal issues, marketing and sponsorship challenges will be viewed through the lens of the Da Vinci TIPS™ Framework by a practitioner, academic, and researcher with over 40 years of experience in the SA sport industry.* Your Zoom link for the Inaugural Lecture will be sent to you post-registration, closer to the event date.

SASCA is proud to announce another free webinar, this one aimed at coach developers.

The 4th NCDA Webinar for Coach Developers will take place on 23 June at 2pm (SA time) where the topic will be Innovative Ways to Support Coaches’ Practice.

The NCDA webinar will explore a variety of ways for coach developers to support coaches’ practice, stressing the need to identify appropriate support options for each coach and in a pragmatic, cost-effective way. It will showcase 4 different examples and use breakout rooms to allow coach developers to explore one area in more depth.

Free Safeguarding Unit Webinars (7-14 July)

You are invited to a two-part FREE webinar brought to you by Safe Sport International and the Safeguarding Unit at London law firm Farrer & Co. They will be held on 7 and 14 July.

The themes will be on how academic research can inform good safeguarding practice. Professor Emerita Kari Fasting will first discuss ‘what we know about non accidental violence in sport’, Prof Bettina Rulofs will share her recent research on German athletes’ experiences and their designated sexual violence commissioner roles, and Adele Eastman will present the Safeguarding Unit’s ground breaking guidance on the importance of sharing low level concerns. We will post details on the second webinar in due course.

SASCA Membership meeting on 15 June

Save the date for the South African Sports Coaching Association (SASCA) Membership meeting on 15 June 2020.

The professional body for sports coaching was launched on 19 November last year, with a vision to enhance the integrity, relevance and standing of the profession of sports coaching that will benefit athletes, participants and society by providing high performance service to our membership of sports coaching professionals.

In its short existence, SASCA is going from strength to strength with a growing membership base. The 15th June therefore is another significant milestone in the body’s development.

The South African Sports Coaches Association (SASCA) is offering members to register for a free ICCE Connect Webinar session to be held on Thursday, 28 May. Perfect for the lockdown blues!

The meeting will take place on the Zoom platform at 3pm SA time. It is open to the first 100 people who join the call and a recording will also be available on YouTube after the session.

The theme of the webinar will be ‘Working together helps us all get better – the Nordic coaching community of practice”.
